Torresdale-Frankford CC (private)
Philadelphia, PA
Fat Guy Review (1998): If memory serves this is a Ross course. A very good old school country club parkland course with rolling elevation changes, and in very good shape. Surrounded by Northeast Philly neighborhoods. Definitely worth a round if you get an invite to play here.
Where To Booze & Grub Nearby: There's a classy, old school grill room and restaurant on premisis.
A Must Booze & Grub spot nearby is Three Monkeys Cafe (9645 James, Torresdale, www.3monkeyscafe.com). Where else can you belly up to a bar built in 1895, have drinks on a tree-canopied Key West-inspired patio complete with wrought iron tables and a monkey-statue fountain, order everything from wings to wraps to steaks and chops off a great gastropub menu, then the snag a stool at an outdoor bar built around a tree? A great atmosphere for catching a Phillies game on the projection screen of their cozy string-lit patio.
Gamblers will love nearby PARX Casino (www.parxcasino.com), featuring Jax Ultralounge for flashy cocktails and plasmas galore, and a casino-center bar named 360 for getting your groove on. For less casino pretense, hit Philly fave Chickie & Pete's sports bar for their signature crab fries and buffalo chicken fingers, Foodies for cheesesteaks, burgers, and pizza, or scale it up at steakhouse Parx Grill (entree's $18-$38 with $5 ala carte sides). Good steaks, and be sure to order the creme brulee cheesecake for dessert.
