Breakers West, one of two eighteens affiliated with this classic resort, has undergone a $6 million overhaul and been renamed the Breakers Rees Jones course. Jones removed acres of nonindigenous trees, replacing them with lakes and scores of native pines and oaks.

Golfcourse.com Review: This picturesque course was built on flat terrain, so it is real easy to walk. The fairways are wide open, and water hazards come into play on sixteen holes. The greens are large, fast and putt true. The signature hole is #9, a par 4, which requires a tee shot over water, then an approach shot over water to an elevated green.

Golf packages from $279 per night.

Where To Stay:  The on-site hotel was the model for Kiawah Island's Sanctuary Hotel, and exudes a 1930's class, with modern updates like world class pools and spa complexes.

Where To Grub: Once you shell out the dough for the room and the greens fees for a resort this classy, you won't want to leave.  Luckily, The Breakers was ranked #3 by T&L Golf as having the best resort restaurants in Florida in 2006.
