Arnold Palmer
7010, 72

'03 Fees: Golf Magazine says $49 to $59, while T&L Golf says $40-$71.

Golf Magazine Review: 15 minutes from the oceanfront, this semi-private Palmer design is part of a new golf community, and offers a gently rolling wooded test with wetlands and 13 lakes. Has the Palmer-trademark spacious, well-manicured fairways and slick, bent-grass greens. Strong par 3's, most notably the 11th, playing to an island green.

Golf Magazine Reader's Comments: "Fantastic conditions, service, layout, and clubhouse. . . Southern hospitality at it's finest, memorable experience. . . Feel of a high-end daily fee, but not the price. Only turn-off is the construction/noise. . . Greens super-fast, roll very true. . . One of the nicest landscaped courses I've ever played, friendly staff. . . Too many houses on some holes. . . Not long, but well-protected greens."

T&L Golf Review: A muscular track topping out at just over 7,000 yards with treacherous "beach bunkers" receding directly into lakes on 8 of the 14 water holes. The menace of 2 brutish finishers, a 562-yard par 5 followed by a 451-yard par 4, is tempemered as elsewhere by magnificent landscaping. A mini-Eden of roses, azaleas, and other botanical lovelies around the property will happily pull even the most engaged golfer off the scent.

Where To Grub & Booze: Golf Magazine recommends Mahi Mah's, a lively saloon and oceanfront dining spot in the Ramada Inn On The Beach, where the raw bar is for real. OR, Ralph, of "Ralph's Roadmap for Wings" website, recommends the wings at Lendy's Chicken & Seafood (1581 Gen. Booth Blvd). For VA Beach Gentlemen's Clubs, Foxy Ladies (1425 Lynnhaven Pkwy ), J.B.'s Gallery Of Girls (1781 VA Beach Blvd), Tailgators Sports Bar & Go-Go (1725 Potters Rd).
