Fat Guy's Top 50 Cool Name Courses
[This page still under construction.]
I'm a sucker for a course with a cool name. Whether it's funny (Polish Pines), and oddity (Ye Nyne Olde Holes), or bad-ass (Ambush at Lajitas), sometimes I'll plop down greens fees and spend 5 hours just to add an interesting logo ball to my collection.
Ambush at Lajitas
Polish Pines
Ye Old Nyne Holes
The Badlands
Silver Lakes- A track with an utterly forgettable moniker like Silver Lakes makes the list? That's because they have 3 nines named Backbreaker, Mindbreaker, and Heartbreaker.
Bully Pulpit
Casa De Campo (Teeth Of The Dog)
Green Monkey @ Sandy Lane
Cape Kidnappers
Hell's Point, Virginia Beach. An early Rees Jones layout cut out of the Virginia pines, but still close enough to the ocean to smell the salt air. The course emphasizes strategy, not length. 61 sculptured bunkers and several lakes come into play, with narrow fairways and undulating greens.
Bunker HIll GC in Dubuque IA (a short hilly track)
Backbone G&CC in Strawberry Point IA (a hilly 9-holer)
[Fat Guy Note: I have not played most of these courses. As always, proper research and reservations are required.]
