Fat Guy Golf Monthly

September 2010

This is just a spot to highlight a few pages on the site every month, based on such whims as where I've been playing lately, good seasonal destinations, where the Tour's playing, and other favorites.

September Destinations-

Fat Guy's Penn State/State College PA Golf Weekend-

Have you noticed that vague restless feeling you've had the past few Saturdays?  That's your body knowing that even though it still feels like summer, Saturday afternoons will soon be filled with beer, wings, and smashmouth football.  Here's the full skinny on how to do one of the greatest football programs in the country, my alma mater.

Fat Guy's Boston MA Golf Weekend-

Granite Links GC @ Quarry Hills

History, golf, Irish pubs, chowdah, and Fenway.  You need other reasons to go?

Road Trip-

Fat Guy's Microbrew Golf Trail

Thanks to Andrew at OOBGolf.com for suggesting this idea.  I took Maxim's list of their favorite regional microbrews and paired them up with great golf.

Tour Spotlight-

Cog Hill GC #4 Dubsdread- Lemont, IL (outside Chicago)

Fat Guy played here a few years ago (it's public), and everything about the joint backs up the Tour's tagline... "These guys are good."  Plus where to booze & grub while you're there.  See Also:  Fat Guy's Chicago Deep Dish Pizza & Golf Weekend

Chambers Bay GC- Tacoma WA (outside Seattle)

The U.S. Amateur just wrapped up here, and the Open is headed for Chambers Bay in 2015.  Get there now before the greens fees go from high to ridiculous.

"Guy Movie" Golf Weekend-

The Shining-

So you 'accidentally' hit into the foursome in front of you on that short par-4 because of the extra elevation carry in the Rockies and you don't know the proper ettiquette thing to say?  "Herrre's Johnny!", of course.

Fat Guy Course Of The Month-

Westchase GC- Tampa, FL

One of the best values I've ever stumbled across (recommended by a golf savvy bellhop during my 2000 stay).  And if you've never been to Tampa you may not know it, but it's one of the best party towns in the country, a heady mix of Spring Break meets N'Awlins meets Windsor Ontario.

Fat Guy's Link Of The Month-  www.oobgolf.com

The guys at OOB Golf gave me a shoutout recently, so here's a little back scratchin' in return.  Blogs, tour coverage, course ratings, find playing partners, an active user community, and random invites to join the OOBGolf Madden 2011 online league?!

This Should Be The Standard Greenskeeping Employee And Uniform-
