T&L Golf Review: 5 stars by T&L. Built on a flat floodplain, but it doesn't feel that way. The 1st tee views 8300 ft Mt. Currie. Great practice range and 9-hole par 3 warm-up course. The 600 yard par 5 4th is named Purgatory 'cause of the meandering stream which cuts across the fairway 4 times. Big Sky has the Whistler area's best combination of scenery, playability, and challenge.
Best Bar Nearby: Per T&L Golf, nightlife in Whistler sees 20-somethings flocking to clubs such as Tommy Africa's (604-932-6090) and Maxx Fish (604-932-1904). A slightly older crowd looks for last-call love at Buffalo Bill's (604-932-6613) and The Savage Beagle (604-938-3337). For live music hit Boot Pub (604-932-3338). See and be seen on the patio at Amsterdam Pub (604-932-8334). Or retreat to the more discreet Mallard Bar (604-938-8000) in the Fairmont Chateau Whistler for conversation and cigars in a spot where you can actually hear yourself think. Had enough highbrow BS for one trip? Maxim digs the Longhorn Saloon.
Where To Grub: T&L Golf says try The Wildflower @ the Fairmount Chateau Whistler (604-938-2033) featuring a warm, comfortable room with a contemporary French menu and a vast wine list. OR, Araxi (more daring cuisine, 604-932-4540) and Rimrock Cafe (877-932-5589) are both creekside near the base of Whistler Mountain. OR, Whistler is a great spot for sushi, the best being at Sushi Village (604-932-3330). OR, for more modest fare, stroll through the Pan Pacific to Dubh Linn Gate (800-387-3311), which has a stellar selection of beer and high-end pub grub.
Where To Stay: Fairmount Chateau Whistler has golf course and mountain views, restaurants, indoor pool, hard to top this hotel. OR, Pacific Lodge Whistler is cozily plush with gas fireplace and kitchen in every suite, chairlifts right out the backdoor, and walking distance to bars and nightclubs. OR, try the Westin Resort & Spa, or wait for the much-anticipated opening of the Four Seasons Resort Whistler in '04.
